Pax Romana is a society dedicated to research and re-enactment of the Roman Army and society of the late first century A.D.

Each piece of equipment that the society uses to recreate Roman life is made as authentically as is practicable and is based on recent research, notably that of Russell Robinson of the Tower of London Armory. Everything is made by the members of Rax Romana to the highest possible standards of accuracy and workmanship.

Public displays are given at major re-enactment events throughout Australia. The displays include aspects of Roman  military training, combat and camp life. Pax Romana also engages in demonstrations of Roman siege weaponry and gladiatorial combats. A static display provides information on various aspects of Roman life and gives the public the opportunity to examine the clothing, armour, equipment and accoutrements at close quarters.

To anyone interested in re-enacting early Imperial Roman times, Pax Romana offers a unique and absorbing opportunity to relive the life of a Roman – a soldier, camp attendant, lady or gladiator.

Pax Romana is always pleased to welcome new members, male or female, who share an interest in the Society’s aims. Members are supplied with costume, armour and equipment at no cost to themselves but are encouraged to assist in the production of Pax Romana’s gear, with assistance and instructions from members at Pax Romana’s workshops.

Full membership of Pax Romana is open to anyone over the age of 18 with an interest in the aims of the society. Skill in working with metal, leather, fabric or wood is welcomed, but not essential. Members need to be able to work as a team. Members of Pax Romana who choose to take part in the VIIIIth Legion as legionaries, II Cohort Batavia as Auxiliaries and Ludi Romani Gladiatori need to note that extensive training is required to participate

Pax Romana concentrates on five areas of interest, to provide a well rounded re-enactment of Roman life. Members are welcome to focus on one, many or many of these areas:

The VIIIIth Legion Hispana: Legionaries of late 1st Century Roman Britain.
The IInd Cohors Batavia: Auxiliaries and Artillerists of late 1st Century Roman Britain.
Dominia: Women of late first century Rome
Ludi Romani Gladiatori: Gladiators of the Roman Circus, late first century Rome.
Gallicus Virtus: Gallic Enemies of Rome.
